What is Reiki

Energy is Within Us All

Reiki is a form of energy healing that originated in Japan in the 1920s. It is believed that Dr. Mikao Usui discovered this healing practice during a 21-day retreat of fasting and meditation on Mount Kurama. On the final day, he reportedly experienced a profound spiritual awakening, marked by a vision of bright white light and the reception of a healing energy later named Reiki.

Reiki is typically transmitted through the hands of a trained practitioner and can be directed toward a person, group, or even an object. Dr. Usui developed a method known as “attunement” to pass this healing energy on to others—an essential part of Reiki training still used today. One of his students, Mrs. Hawayo Takata, played a key role in introducing Reiki to Hawaii and later to the mainland United States, where it eventually spread worldwide.

Recognized as a form of energy medicine and complementary therapy, Reiki can be used on its own or alongside conventional and alternative medical treatments. Many hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, and wellness centers now welcome Reiki practitioners to support patients and residents. Reiki encourages deep relaxation and promotes the body’s natural ability to heal on physical, emotional, and mental levels.

Please note: Reiki promotes relaxation and is intended to be a complementary practice. It is not meant to be a substitute for professional medical care. Doug is not a doctor and has no power to diagnose, treat, or cure any condition.<
